    Services

“the.jhu.edu” offers a number of services for student groups:

    Web hosting

Your club can have a the.jhu.edu/clubname web address. It’ll be hosted on this student-run web server.

    Comparisons

IT@JH offers web hosting for clubs as well. We think you’ll like our web hosting better. Here’s why:

    • Student support. JHU ACM students run this web site and this web server. We care about student groups; if you have a question about how to use or install some web tool, ask us. We’re friendly.
    • Ease. If you aren’t a tech guru, we can help you build a website for your club that’s easy for you to update using WordPress.
    • Memorable web address. With JHU web hosting, you can get www.jhu.edu/clubname for web hosting with no features or webhost5.nts.jhu.edu/clubname for web hosting with features. We offer a memorable URL - the.jhu.edu/clubname - and more features than you can shake a stick at.
    • Security. Each user’s PHP code runs *only* as that user. This means that you can protect your data from snooping users. Most web servers (including webhost5) offer no protection from other users who want to read or modify your data.
    • Features. We offer PostgreSQL and MySQL databases and let you run PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, and C++ code (just to name a few) to build your website the way you want it.

    Mailing lists

Our Mailman-based mailing lists are flexible and easy to use. We show a listing of all the mailing lists we currently host at lists.acm.jhu.edu. If you want to sign up, follow the “sign up” link up top!
