Novartis Summer Research Internship Program

Program Overview

Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is looking for summer (6/14-8/27) interns at Cambridge, MA.  They offer numerous hands on pharmaceutical research experience for students in the areas of biology, chemistry, and computer science.

Interns work on an independent project under mentor leadership, participate in journal clubs, and attend a drug discovery seminar series geared towards exposing interns to a variety of pharmaceutical research topics.  At the end of summer, students have the opportunity to present their project results at a campus wide poster session.  Students are also encouraged to attend intern and NIBRI social events throughout the program term.

Undergraduate Research at RWTH Aachen University

RWTH Aachen University, Germany, is one of Europe’s leading universities of science and technology and distinguished by Germany’s Excellence Initiative.

The program UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program) International is specifically designed for highly qualified US and Canadian undergraduates who are motivated to conduct their own independent research project at one of the RWTH institutes, being mentored by excellent scientific staff from our university, while spending a summer abroad.

Further program elements include an intensive German language training, intercultural seminars, workshops introducing the broader field of research and various leisure activities. Students will experience a complete program taking into account all different aspects of their stay abroad.

The Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research is offering a unique Summer Scientific Internship experience, providing hands on research in a scientific setting. Projects can be in any of the areas of biology/biochemistry/biostatistics, the chemistry fields, and computer science. Students enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to work on a specific project under the guidance of a research mentor in a laboratory setting. In addition to ground breaking research in an innovative and collaborative environment, interns participate in an intern-run journal club, seminar series and present their research at the end of the summer. The summer program also offers a mid-year social outing for all interns and mentors the Cambridge campus and additional networking opportunities.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: PhD/MS in Biochemical Engineering/Biochemistry or Biological Sciences

Experience: Relevant experience of 0 - 3 years with a Ph.D. degree or 8-10 years with a Master’s degree for Scientist I position, and 3 - 7 years with a Ph.D. degree or 10-13 years with a Master’s degree for Scientist II position

Special Skills/Abilities: Candidates with prior experience in metabolic engineering, metabolomics, trancriptomics, proteomics, system biology, bioreactor characterization, interface phenomena, fluid flow modeling, or multivariate analysis is highly desirable. Excellent teamwork and communication skills including proven technical writing skills are required. Position may require weekend work.

Job Complexity: Must be flexible who can multi task efficiently. Cell culture activities may require periodic weekend work.

Supervision: Supervisory experience desired but not required.
