MedImmune is looking for an associate scientist with an BS/MS in Chemical Engineering and an expertise in protein purification and bioprocessing.

Job Description

Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters Req: 02052

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):

The candidate should have a thorough understanding of protein purification techniques and principles including liquid chromatography, normal and cross flow filtration. The candidate is expected to design, develop and execute protein purification processes to meet early stage process development objectives and timelines. Responsibilities include development and troubleshooting of purification protocols for novel molecules such as protein-drug conjugates, bi-specifics and proteins expressed in bacterial expression system that require refolding. Experience with standard protein purification instrumentation and analytical laboratory techniques are essential. The candidate is expected to prepare technical reports, to maintain accurate records of experiments, and to analyze and present data at group and team meetings. The candidate is expected to assist in the preparation of regulatory documents (INDs, CTAs and IMPDs).

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: PhD/MS in Biochemical Engineering/Biochemistry or Biological Sciences

Experience: Relevant experience of 0 - 3 years with a Ph.D. degree or 8-10 years with a Master’s degree for Scientist I position, and 3 - 7 years with a Ph.D. degree or 10-13 years with a Master’s degree for Scientist II position

Special Skills/Abilities: Candidates with prior experience in metabolic engineering, metabolomics, trancriptomics, proteomics, system biology, bioreactor characterization, interface phenomena, fluid flow modeling, or multivariate analysis is highly desirable. Excellent teamwork and communication skills including proven technical writing skills are required. Position may require weekend work.

Job Complexity: Must be flexible who can multi task efficiently. Cell culture activities may require periodic weekend work.

Supervision: Supervisory experience desired but not required.
