Milwaukee School of Engineering launched a new undergraduate program in BioMolecular Engineering in the fall of 2009 and is committed to build the faculty with several new hires over the next 4 years. MSOE is currently inviting applicants for two positions starting as soon as spring 2011. These two individuals are expected to be major contributors to the development of the new program. A Ph.D. in an engineering field, with aptitude to develop and teach courses in the areas of Bioinformatics, Metabolic Engineering, or Synthetic Biology, along with the computational and experimental lab skills to work at the biomolecular and nano scales are required. Industrial or postdoctoral experience in one of the above areas is desirable. The candidates should also have a commitment and ability to teach undergraduate courses in one of the following areas: biology, chemistry or physics. Initial appointments are expected to be at the Assistant Professor level, but applications from senior candidates may be considered for higher rank.

The “Mechanisms of Disease & Translational Science” (MoD) Graduate Track is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)-sponsored Med into GradInitiative. MoD will train PhD students to become leaders of the next generation of translational scientists. MoD trainees will have new opportunities to study human diseases at the interface between basic and clinical sciences. They will be empowered to spearhead the bidirectional translation of discoveries between the “bench” and “bedside” to harness the explosion of scientific knowledge to improve human health.
