Career Night with McCormick

McCormick will be coming to JHU on Tuesday December 1st, 6:30PM in the Charles Commons Salon A Room.  Target majors are Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

There will be one speaker from the consumer products division of the company, and one from the industrial products division of the company.

Food will be provided by McCormick.

MIT Technology and Policy Program

MIT will be coming tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, 11 am – noon in Shriver Hall (Clipper Room) to conduct an informational session on MIT’s Technology and Policy Program (TPP). Founded in 1976 and the largest of its kind in the world, TPP is a two-year multidisciplinary graduate degree program. It aims to educate engineers and scientists in responsible leadership of technology development by implementing policies for the benefit of humanity. The program prepares its graduates to excel in their technical fields, and to develop and employ effective strategies for dealing with the risks and opportunities associated with those technologies. Juniors and seniors from all engineering disciplines as well as the natural sciences are encouraged to attend to learn more about this unique opportunity.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Genentech PR&D Outstanding Student Awards for Juniors

Process Research and Development Outstanding Student Awards – 2009/2010

The Process Research and Development (PR&D) organization functions as the bridge between Research and Manufacturing, taking processes from laboratory bench-scale to manufacturing-scale. The mission of PR&D is to design, develop, scale up and implement cost-effective production systems and technologies for therapeutic drug candidates to fulfill the demands of Genentech’s Research, Development, Commercial and Production Operations groups.

The Genentech PR&D Student Awards were founded to recognize outstanding students in disciplines related to chemical and biochemical engineering at selected schools. JHU, based on its faculty, research and outstanding students, has been selected to receive a student award of $2,500. The student award-winner will be offered a three-month summer intern position starting in June 2010 at Genentech’s South San Francisco or Oceanside locations in California in one of the following areas:

EPA Student Career Experience Program

EPA Student Career Experience Program

Representatives from the EPA will come to talk about their Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) at 5 PM in the Sherwood Room.

The SCEP is a special paid internship designed to provide students currently enrolled in a degree program with paid work experience that compliments their academic program, and to introduce them to Federal government career opportunities.  Upon completion of the required number of work hours (generally 640 hours before graduation), and graduation, students become eligible for direct hire into the Federal government for the type of position for which they have trained.

Career Center Resume Critique

The Career Center is planning on taking a full day next Tuesday (Oct. 20) to hold drop-in resume critique hours for engineering students.  This will be held at Engineering Advising (Shaffer 103) from 9-12 and 1-4 to critique students’ resumes, as well as answer quick career-related questions.
