Biodiesel/Algae Scientist Positions for Ph.D’s
Through Wingate Dunross Associates, Inc., a start-up producing biodiesel from algae in Brownville, Tx, is hiring Ph.D Senior Scientists for Extraction and Nutrient Systems.
What is the market opportunity? 65 billion gallons of diesel/heating oil per year (US). Un-profitable use of oilseed crops as feedstock limited biodiesel production to just 0.45 billion gallons in 2007. U.S. government mandate for 9 B gallons of renewable fuel in 2008, growing to 36B gallons by 2022. Expanded International opportunity via licensing and/or direct sales. Approximately 20 algae-fuels startups are currently funded, displaying lab-level solutions. Competitor success viewed advantageously in this early stage of the industry.
How will revenues be generated? Customers are biorefiners/blenders, each requesting production of 100M gallons/year. We are working with a partner today, with signed LOI. Our current plan capacity is for 76M gallons in year 8, generating $291M in sales. We anticipate buy-out offers at pilot plant demonstration, with a projected sales price of $98M ($285M valuation). This projection and plan is internal growth based, not including of the much larger national and international market opportunity.

1. Senior Scientist: Nutrient Systems:
Lead the development of cost-effective nutrient systems supporting algae growth. Identify regional sources, create coupled technical and cost models, develop physical tests that validate/improve the system models. Working with our genetics team, developed fundamental relationships of nutrients with desired algal cell characteristics. Leadership-this position requires the ability to identify the technical path, and lead others to achieve goals.
Skills: PhD in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with Bio focused experience. Experienced in analytical instrumentation (HPLC, LC/MS, GC/MS). Experience in the scaleup to the pilot plant level in renewable energy, waste streams/treatment, petrochemical, or food/pharmaceutical industries would be applicable. Algae experience highly desired.
