There are two internship positions at Medimmune (Gaithersburg) in the department of Process Cell Culture (Development).

1) Summer Intern

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Req: 01555

Job Description: The responsibilities involve:

· Assisting in the development of our platform mammalian cell culture medium and nutrient feed using scientific and statistically designed experimental strategies

· Evaluation of medium in a high-throughput small-scale system

· Conducting experiments to help understand impact of medium components/formulation on productivity and cell line stability

· Preparing a final report and presenting it in a department meeting.

Education: Senior / Junior B.S. student , current M.S. or Ph.D. student, or graduate in cell/molecular biology , microbiology, biochemical engineering or related field.

Experience: Experience in cell biology, cell culture, biochemistry or general biological laboratory environment, experience in aseptic techniques preferred.

Special Skills/Abilities: Must be comfortable using aseptic technique with recombinant mammalian cell lines. Experience with shake flasks and bioreactors as well as DOE software desirable.

2) Summer Intern - Process Cell Culture & Fermentation

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Position Summary:

An internship position is available in the process cell culture group at MedImmune, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Position description: the intern will collaborate with scientist to optimize our harvest/ primary recovery platform for mammalian cell culture using scientific and statistically designed experimental strategies.

The candidate will need to have a good grasp of basic scientific principles, a capacity to learn quickly and apply the knowledge to perform laboratory experiments. The candidate will be expected to be able to perform specified experiments and collect data on their own once trained on the equipment. A close attention to detail, careful observations and accurate note taking and data collection will be required.

Data analysis and the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word are required.
