Shirley Leong
Shirley is a senior this year and she is very excited to be serving her fellow ChemBEs as AIChE/SBE President. She has been very involved in the ChemBE department in roles such as Freshmen Rep, Sophomore Rep, and VP of SBE Industry Relations for AIChE/SBE as well as Undergraduate Director of Hopkins ChemBE Career Network. She has also interned for three summers with Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical and medical device companies. But beyond her involvement in all things ChemBE, she also loves to sing, dance, and watch senselessly funny movies. She is looking forward to meeting other ChemBEs and making sure the 2007-2008 school year is a great one!

Gwen Melnyk
I'm a third-year senior ChemBE here at Hopkins. I am currently doing research for Dr. Frechette on patterning silane and proteins on mica, so I can study the correlation between clustering and surface forces. I plan on staying here for my fourth year while I obtain my master's degree in Chemical and Bionanotechnology Engineering. After graduation, I hope to be working in a biotech or pharm. company and eventually be a project manager.
I have been heavily involved in AIChE since freshman year. For my freshman year, I was involved in the ChemE Car Competition and attended the regional conference at Penn State. For my sophomore year, I served as treasurer, and made sure all the events ran smooth. This year, I serve as your VP for Biological industries. My goal is to create more industry awareness on our campus, as well as making our university stand out more in the industrial world. Additionally, I plan to begin many recruiting ties, so that you will have more opportunities to get an internship and a full time job. I attended the National AIChE conference this year, and plan to attend both the National SBE and regional AIChE conference as well. The biggest thing to know about me is that I'm a workaholic. Not only am I heavily involved in AIChE, I am involved in many other organizations as well. Currently, I am the VP for the Society of Women Eng. and the secretary of the CSC Dance Program (where I go to Barclay and teach 3-5 graders how to dance ballet). For fun, I am also a member of the Eclectics Dance Team, so please come see our shows. I look forward to meeting you all, and hope that you can attend all of our events. We put a lot of effort into making these events happen just for you. gmelnyk1@jhu.edu |

Jon Gilbert
Hi everyone,
My name is Jonathan Gilbert. I am the VP for Student Affairs and am excited to be a part of AIChE SBE. I am interested in the ChemBE molecular and cellular focus within in the ChemBE department. I am also interested in business, economics and investing and enjoy taking classes that expand my understanding of business (and count toward a management and entrepreneurship minor!) I enjoy almost any sport and love to compete in intramurals. I also am active in the Johns Hopkins Tutorial Project run by the Center for Social Concern. Let me know if you have any questions or anything. Thanks.

Terence Tse
Your very own ChemBE international student, Terence hails from just north of the border. Though born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Terence actually graduated from a high school on the other side of the world: the Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan. A sophomore this year, Terence is excited to be a part of AIChE and really looks forward to bringing you AIChE's annual events, and on top of that, a couple new ones.
Around campus, Terence tries to get involved as much as can and takes part in community service and research. Academically, Terence is also pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship and management and has a keen interest in the world of business and economics. After college, Terence would like to find a career in industry and is thinking of testing the waters with an internship this summer. Terence would describe himself, in no particular order, as laidback (maybe too much so), easygoing, and amiable. He's always open to new ideas and is constantly on the look for new and exciting things to in the little spare time Hopkins leaves him. So, please, don't be intimidated by this man's charm, wit, and striking good looks. If you see him around campus, be sure to say hello and have a chat about anything in particular, whether ChemBE related or not (preferably the latter). Thanks. ttse1@jhu.edu |

Dennis Ko
Dennis is currently a junior at Johns Hopkins University majoring in Chemical Engineering. He hopes to return to Southern California for graduate school. He has done research in Dr. Denis Wirtz's lab at Hopkins as well as research in Dr. Julie Kornfield's lab at Caltech. His research on crosslinking corneas won 3rd place at the 2007 National AIChE Undergraduate Poster Competition.
During the school year, he interns at ApplicationsOnline and does web marketing for the Universal College Application. In his spare time, Dennis enjoys playing tennis, basketball, football, and snowboarding. Additionally, as a technology reviewer for the Johns Hopkins Newsletter, he likes to collect gadgets (and somehow finds a use for all of them). He'd also like to get a neon green mohawk at some point in this school year. zoom@jhu.edu |

Eric Lam
Wazzup. My Name is Eric and I'm from New York City. I'm currently a sophomore majoring in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering with a concentration in Nanotechnology. My job as the ChemE Car Chair is to make sure that Hopkins produces a functioning chemical reaction car for the AIChE car competition for the 2008 AIChE Regional Conference to take place at Manhattan College in the Bronx, NY. In order for this to happen, a team has to be put together, think of a winning concept for the car, and get it approved by our safety adviser, Dr. Katz, before any car building can take place. I've attended AIChE's 2007 Regional and National Conferences, giving me a great understanding on how the competition works and received the required safety training at the National Conference.
Other than being an AIChE Officer, within the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering Department, I'm actively involved in research with Dr. Joelle Frechette in the area of Interfacial Forces, more specifically the stability of self-assembling monolayer (SAMs) on mica substrate in different environments and the optimization of SAM creation via vapor deposition. Outside of the ChemBE world at Hopkins, Eric is involved with the American Red Cross, as a certified CPR/First Aid Instructor, and APO, the national service fraternity. During the past 5 summers, I've worked at the NY Downtown Hospital as the personal assistant to the Vice President of Corporate Development. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, electronics, and of course, sleeping. eric.lam@jhu.edu |

Stephen Reilly
Hey everybody! My name's Stephen Reilly, and I'm a current sophomore from Bernardsville, NJ. As an AIChE/SBE representative, I'm doing what I can to help make AIChE/SBE a more group and the ChemBE and BME departments more dynamic majors on campus. However, I'm also involved in other activities also. I play lead trombone in the JHU Jazz Ensemble and participate in the JHU Wind Ensemble. You'll probably find me playing in the pep band for home lacrosse games this spring too! I also am involved with WJHU radio and the RAB. I'm a very approachable and friendly guy, so feel free to talk to me whenever you see me around.

Dan Corbi
Hey, I'm Dan and I serve as a Sophomore Represenative for the JHU chapter of AICHE. I'm from a small town called Sherman, Connecticut, and I lived there all my life. My interests, outside of chemical engineering, include philosophy, the outdoors, tennis, card magic, anime, chess, and other strategy games. I am a pretty easy going guy, so feel free to approach me if you want to know anything more. I'm minoring in philosophy, so when I'm not sprawled out over engineering homework you can usually find me arguing with someone about topics I don't understand. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

David Rezzo
Hello Everyone! My name is David Rezzo and I am a currently serving as a Freshman Representative for AIChE/SBE. I came from small all-men's Catholic High School in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles), California. My passion towards the sciences, however, brought me to no other place than Johns Hopkins University. I am very excited about serving my fellow freshman through AIChE. I would enjoy talking to my fellow classmates any members to get feedback for AIChE, or more generally if you wanted to talk about politics, science, movies, music or culture. Go Blue Jays!
